Main Vaapas Aaunga is showing some encouraging momentum at the box office on Day 5. While the film’s overall numbers remain modest by commercial standards, its Tuesday collection surpassing its first Saturday earnings suggests that positive word of mouth may be beginning to work in its favor. It is still too early to determine the film’s long-term box office trajectory, but the coming weekend will provide a clearer indication of whether Imtiaz Ali’s latest directorial venture has the potential to emerge as a steady long-runner.

Imtiaz Ali, the filmmaker behind Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar and Chamkila, returned to theaters on June 12 after a long time with Main Vaapas Aaunga, an emotionally charged love story set against the backdrop of the Partition of India and Pakistan.

The film opened to largely positive reviews, with many critics praising its emotional storytelling and performances. While it registered a modest opening at the box office, collections have shown signs of improvement as the week has progressed.

According to trade estimates, Main Vaapas Aaunga collected ₹1.15 crore on its opening day, followed by ₹1.85 crore on Saturday and ₹2.50 crore on Sunday, its highest single-day collection so far. The film added ₹1.15 crore on Monday and an estimated ₹1.65 crore on Tuesday, taking its five-day India net total to approximately ₹8.40 crore. With its gross collections nearing the ₹10 crore mark, the film appears to be benefiting from positive audience reception.

The film’s strongest day so far remains Sunday. However, the fact that Tuesday’s estimated ₹1.65 crore collection surpassed its opening-day figure and almost matched its first Saturday collection is being seen as an encouraging sign. For smaller, content-driven films, weekday stability is often viewed as a stronger indicator of audience acceptance than opening-day numbers alone.

Positive word of mouth appears to be helping the film sustain momentum through the weekdays. Despite facing competition from several new releases and holdover titles, Main Vaapas Aaunga has shown resilience at the box office, with exhibitors continuing to schedule multiple daily shows across major multiplex chains.

The film entered a crowded marketplace that includes titles such as Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past, Disclosure Day, as well as holdover releases Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and Peddi. Despite the competition, the film has managed to maintain a steady presence and gradually improve its collections.

The movie features a strong ensemble led by Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari. Shah plays a 95-year-old man who suffers a stroke while desperately attempting to run to Pakistan. Unable to explain his actions, he leaves his grandson to piece together the mystery behind his journey, uncovering a story marked by love, heartbreak, loss, and the lasting impact of Partition.

The film’s box office journey remains an interesting one to watch. While the numbers are still modest, its Day 5 growth offers a positive sign. The real test, however, will come during its second weekend, which should provide a clearer picture of whether Main Vaapas Aaunga can translate strong word of mouth into a sustained theatrical run.

Trade observers will now be closely monitoring the film’s second weekend performance. A healthy jump in collections on Saturday and Sunday could significantly strengthen its theatrical prospects, particularly given the positive audience reactions and critical reception the film has received during its opening week.
