A Sucker’s Born Every Minute follows Toni Lomas, a former talent show participant whose life and career have significantly declined. Struggling financially and personally, Toni becomes involved in a risky scheme when he is approached by Junior, the son of a wealthy businessman, through his former romantic connection Malena.

The plan revolves around stealing a valuable painting from the family estate. To execute the operation, Toni joins forces with La Mari and El Gallego, forming an unlikely team brought together by circumstance and opportunity. As the theft begins to unfold, the narrative explores the chaos and unpredictability surrounding the characters’ actions, blending crime-driven situations with dark humor.

Hugo Silva portrays Toni Lomas, with Susi Sánchez, Dafne Fernández, Diego Anido and Sofía Otero appearing in key roles. The ensemble cast contributes to the film’s multi-character narrative structure, which combines interpersonal conflict, criminal ambition and comedic tension.

Directed by Arantxa Echevarría, the film continues her work within socially grounded storytelling while moving into black comedy and satirical territory. Echevarría has described the project as both a satirical thriller and a black comedy, reflecting its combination of crime narrative and humor.

The film was produced by Atresmedia Cine, Lazona Producciones, Lazona Films and Olarizu Films AIE, alongside Lamia Producciones Audiovisuales, with participation from Atresmedia, EiTB and Netflix. Cinematography was handled by Pilar Sánchez using anamorphic lenses to shape the film’s visual style.

Filming took place across locations in Gipuzkoa and Biarritz, integrating regional settings into the story’s atmosphere and tone.

A Sucker’s Born Every Minute premiered at the 29th Málaga Film Festival in March 2026 and is scheduled for theatrical release in Spain on 22 May 2026.
