Principal photography began on September 28, 2025, with extensive schedules across Thailand, Vagamon, Kollam, Colombo, Dhanushkodi, Tirunelveli, and Rameswaram. The project was shot using the Sony VENICE 2 8K camera, underscoring its emphasis on scale, clarity, and immersive action staging.

Officially announced in March 2025, Kattalan was launched with a traditional pooja ceremony in Kochi, marking the beginning of a tightly scheduled production. Positioned as a mid-May 2026 theatrical release, the film aims to deliver a muscular Malayalam action drama that prioritises physical realism, location authenticity, and character-driven conflict.
