Screamboat

Screamboat release date: April 2, 2025. Directed by Steven LaMorte, Screamboat is a reimagining of Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks’s 1928 animated short film, Steamboat Willie. The film follows a group of New Yorkers who are terrorized by a monstrous, mischievous rat during a late-night ferry ride. The film stars David Howard Thornton as the iconic Screamboat Willie, alongside Allison Pittel, Amy Schmacher, Jesse Posey, Kailey Hyman, Jesse Kove, and Jarlath Conroy.

The story centers around a tiny but deadly mouse who enjoys wreaking havoc on unsuspecting passengers. The Steamboat Willie version of the character entered the public domain on January 1, 2024, paving the way for the horror-comedy adaptation, which was officially announced in early 2024. Principal photography took place on a ferry owned by Colin Jost and Pete Davidson, with the character’s puppet and costume designed by Quantum Creation FX.

The release was originally set for January 24, 2025, but was later rescheduled for April 2, 2025. Screamboat will be released theatrically by Iconic Events Releasing and will be available on home media by DeskPop Entertainment. The film will also be distributed in the United Kingdom and Ireland by Signature Entertainment.
