Ranveer Singh has found himself at the center of one of Bollywood’s biggest industry controversies of 2026 after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a formal non-cooperation directive against the actor following his reported exit from Don 3.
The controversy reportedly escalated after filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and his production banner Excel Entertainment approached FWICE with complaints linked to Ranveer Singh’s withdrawal from the project shortly before production schedules were expected to begin.
According to multiple industry reports, the dispute involves alleged financial losses estimated between ₹40 crore and ₹45 crore ($4.8–5.4 million), with production preparation costs, scheduling changes, and pre-production commitments becoming central to the fallout. Reports suggest that the actor’s exit caused major disruptions to the planning of the high-profile franchise project.
The situation has quickly turned into one of the most closely watched Bollywood production disputes in recent years because of the scale of the Don franchise and the significance of Ranveer Singh’s casting as the new lead of the series. His entry into the franchise had already generated major industry discussion when the project was first announced.
FWICE later issued an official non-cooperation directive against the actor after reportedly claiming that Ranveer Singh failed to respond to multiple formal communications regarding the matter. The federation stated that notices were sent requesting the actor’s appearance before the body, but no response was received.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees remains one of the most influential labor organizations in the Indian entertainment industry. According to the organization, FWICE represents more than 5 lakh (500,000+) workers and technicians connected to film and television production across India through 38 affiliated associations.
These associations collectively represent nearly every major department within the industry, including direction, cinematography, editing, screenwriting, production management, makeup, costume, stunt performers, junior artists, dubbing artists, sound engineers, dancers, musicians, and television production workers.
Major affiliated associations include the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association, the Screenwriters Guild of India, the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association, and the Western India Cinematographers Association. Because of the scale of its affiliated unions, FWICE directives often carry significant operational weight within Mumbai’s film and television ecosystem.
However, industry experts have noted that the directive does not function as a legal ban preventing Ranveer Singh from working in films. Instead, it operates more as an industry pressure mechanism requesting affiliated workers and technicians to avoid collaboration until the dispute is resolved.
FWICE representatives have described the issue as a serious professional matter involving production discipline and accountability within the film industry. The federation has reportedly emphasized concerns regarding the financial and logistical impact that late-stage actor exits can have on large-scale productions involving hundreds of workers and technicians.
Reports surrounding the dispute also suggest that creative disagreements and scheduling tensions may have contributed to the breakdown between Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar, though neither side has publicly disclosed specific details regarding the actor’s departure from the project.
Following the controversy, Ranveer Singh released an official statement through his spokesperson, saying that he continues to hold “the highest regard” for the film fraternity as well as everyone associated with the Don franchise. The actor avoided directly responding to the allegations and instead stated that he prefers handling “professional discussions and personal equations” with “dignity, maturity and mutual respect.”
The statement was widely viewed as a measured response aimed at preventing further escalation of the dispute publicly. So far, neither Excel Entertainment nor Farhan Akhtar has issued an extensive public rebuttal following Ranveer’s statement.
The controversy has also triggered broader conversations across the Hindi film industry regarding actor exits from major productions, contractual accountability, and the financial risks involved in large-scale franchise filmmaking. Producers and trade observers have increasingly discussed how last-minute casting changes can impact scheduling, international rights deals, set construction, marketing plans, and workforce commitments across large productions.
The dispute arrives during an otherwise commercially successful phase for Ranveer Singh, whose recent action entertainer Dhurandhar: The Revenge emerged as one of the year’s major Hindi box office hits. However, the Don 3 fallout has now overshadowed much of the actor’s recent theatrical momentum.
At present, there has been no official confirmation regarding a resolution between the parties involved, nor any formal update about the future casting of Don 3. With one of Bollywood’s biggest franchises caught in the middle of an escalating industry conflict, the Ranveer Singh–FWICE controversy has rapidly become one of the most talked-about developments across the Hindi film trade.
