Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross Reunite With David Fincher for Brad Pitt’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross Reunite With David Fincher for Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth Film
November 3, 2026

David Fincher is bringing back two familiar creative collaborators for his upcoming film The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross officially confirmed as the composers. The announcement marks the sixth consecutive feature-film collaboration between the filmmaker and the Nine Inch Nails duo, adding another chapter to one of modern cinema’s most recognisable director-composer partnerships.

Starring Brad Pitt, the film is a standalone follow-up to Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. It is scheduled to receive an exclusive two-week IMAX theatrical release beginning November 25, 2026, before arriving on Netflix on December 23.

The latest collaboration carries particular significance because of the consistency with which Reznor and Ross have shaped the sound of Fincher’s films over the years. Their association began with The Social Network (2010), for which the duo won the Academy Award for Best Original Score. They subsequently composed music for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Gone Girl (2014), Mank (2020) and The Killer (2023). Their return for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth marks their sixth consecutive feature-film collaboration with Fincher, continuing a creative relationship that has lasted more than 15 years.

The reunion also brings the composers into a different chapter of Cliff Booth’s story. Written by Tarantino, the film is set eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, placing the story in 1977 Los Angeles. Pitt reprises his Academy Award-winning role as Booth, but the character’s circumstances have changed considerably. Having left his days as a stuntman behind, Cliff now works as a Hollywood fixer, handling problems involving blackmail, extortion and other secrets circulating within the entertainment industry.

The film also brings together an extensive supporting cast. Elizabeth Debicki plays talent agent Karen Crosby, who approaches Cliff on behalf of television star Charlie Peters, portrayed by Scott Caan. Carla Gugino appears as Charlie’s wife, Toni, while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays former football champion turned screen actor Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison. The ensemble also includes Timothy Olyphant, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian.

Another notable aspect of the project is its theatrical release strategy. Netflix is giving the film an exclusive two-week IMAX engagement before its streaming debut, providing Fincher’s latest feature with a dedicated big-screen window ahead of its arrival on the platform. According to the currently listed cinema locations, the release covers 523 IMAX venues across approximately 55 countries and territories. However, the rollout is not universal, with major cinema chains Regal and Cinemark opting out of the IMAX engagement.

For Fincher, the project also marks another reunion with Pitt, following their earlier collaborations on Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Their association has produced several notable films across different genres, and the new project brings the filmmaker and actor together again, this time continuing the story of a character first introduced in Tarantino’s film.

The return of Reznor and Ross adds another familiar creative partnership to the project. Their scores for Fincher have been an important part of the filmmaker’s recent feature-film work, beginning with the electronic and atmospheric sound of The Social Network and continuing through the distinctive musical approaches of Gone Girl, Mank and The Killer. Their involvement in The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth continues that association while bringing their music to a story set within the Hollywood world of the late 1970s.

With Tarantino’s screenplay, Fincher’s direction, Pitt reprising his role as Cliff Booth, and Reznor and Ross returning as composers, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth brings together several established filmmaking collaborators. Its November theatrical release will give audiences their first opportunity to see how this creative combination approaches the next chapter in Cliff Booth’s story, ahead of the film’s December arrival on Netflix.
