Amazon MGM Studios has set November 12, 2027, as the wide theatrical release date for Seasons, the supernatural horror film starring Lily James and Jack Reynor. Directed and written by Drew Hancock, the film follows a married couple whose dream of owning a ranch turns into a fight for survival after they discover ancient spirits tied to the land.
The story centers on a husband and wife who purchase what appears to be their ideal ranch. Their excitement quickly turns to fear when they discover that the property is connected to ancient forces. To survive, the couple must follow increasingly frightening rituals as the seasons change, making the changing landscape itself part of the film’s supernatural threat.
Seasons has taken an unusual route to the big screen. The project originated with Matt Query’s viral horror short story My Wife and I Bought a Ranch, which first appeared on Reddit. The story was later expanded into the novel Old Country, written by Matt Query and Harrison Query. Hancock subsequently adapted the material into a feature screenplay. The film was originally announced under the title My Wife and I Bought a Ranch before being renamed Seasons.
For Hancock, Seasons marks his follow-up to Companion, his 2025 feature debut. While that film established him in the science-fiction and thriller space, his new project moves further into supernatural horror. Lily James plays the wife at the center of the story, with Jack Reynor portraying her husband. The supporting cast includes Ron Perlman, Elizabeth McGovern, Wes Studi and Dane DiLiegro.
The film brings together several established genre producers and production companies. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are producing through 21 Laps, while James Wan and Michael Clear are producing for Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Scott Glassgold and Dan Cohen are also producing through 12:01 Films. The project marks another collaboration between 21 Laps and Atomic Monster.
For James, the film adds another darker project to a varied slate that has seen her work across period drama, romance, comedy and biographical films. Seasons puts her in a central supernatural horror role opposite Reynor, with the story built around isolation, fear and survival.
The November 12, 2027 release date also places Seasons outside the traditional October horror window. Instead of arriving around Halloween, the film will reach cinemas later in November, giving Amazon MGM an opportunity to position it as a major theatrical horror release beyond the holiday period.
From a Reddit horror story to a novel and now a wide theatrical feature, Seasons has already undergone a distinctive evolution before reaching audiences. With Hancock returning to the director’s chair, James leading the cast and Amazon MGM targeting November 12, 2027, the supernatural horror film now has a clear path to its theatrical debut.
