Spider-Man: Brand New Day Estimates $36.5M Weekend
August 23, 2026

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues its dominant run at the domestic box office, holding the No. 1 position for a fourth consecutive weekend with an estimated $36.5 million from Friday through Sunday. The film’s domestic total has reached a reported $852.4 million, taking it past Spider-Man: No Way Home and into third place on the all-time North American box-office chart.

The $36.5 million weekend figure is an estimate/projection and is subject to adjustment when the final weekend numbers are reported on Monday. The film earned approximately $9.8 million on Friday, while the studio projected $36.5 million for the full three-day frame. The result would represent another strong hold for the film in its fourth week, reflecting continued audience demand.

With its reported domestic total at $852.4 million, Brand New Day has moved ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which finished its domestic run with $814.8 million. The film now sits behind only Avengers: Endgame, which stands at $858.3 million, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which remains the all-time domestic leader at $936.6 million.

The next immediate milestone is Avengers: Endgame. Based on the current reported figures, Brand New Day is approximately $5.9 million behind the Marvel film. Whether it can close that gap before its daily collections begin to slow will be one of the key domestic box-office stories over the coming days.

The fourth-weekend performance itself does not set an all-time record. American Sniper holds the record for the biggest fourth weekend in domestic box-office history at $89.3 million, followed by Avatar at $50.3 million. Brand New Day remains well below those figures, but its overall domestic run places it among the biggest performers in box-office history.

The film has also become Sony’s highest-grossing domestic release of all time, according to the current reported figures. Its continued strength is particularly notable given that it is already in its fourth weekend and is competing against several other major releases.

Meanwhile, Insidious: Out of the Further, the sixth film in the Insidious franchise, opened in second place with an estimated $23.7 million from 3,303 North American theatres. The figure includes approximately $10.6 million from Friday, including $3 million from Thursday previews. Its Rotten Tomatoes approval rating currently stands at 58%, ahead of Insidious: The Red Door at 40% but below the original film’s 60%.

The opening is below The Red Door, which debuted to $33 million in 2023. That film benefited from the return of original franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. Out of the Further, however, carries a reported production budget of just $18 million, meaning it does not require the same level of box-office performance to become commercially viable. Across six films, the Insidious franchise has now generated nearly $740 million worldwide.

Lionsgate’s Mutiny, starring Jason Statham, opened in third place with approximately $8 million from 2,703 theatres, including $700,000 from Thursday previews. The action thriller, directed by Jean-François Richet, received a B+ CinemaScore from audiences, matching Statham’s earlier 2026 release Shelter, which opened to $5.5 million.

Lionsgate acquired the North American rights to Mutiny for approximately $15 million before prints and advertising costs. Statham plays a former Marine who is framed for murder and must prove his innocence. The opening is below the levels achieved by some of the actor’s stronger recent releases, including The Beekeeper and A Working Man.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey remained in the top three with an estimated $19 million in its fifth weekend, bringing the epic closer to a new domestic milestone. Meanwhile, Spa Weekend, starring Isla Fisher and Leslie Mann, opened to approximately $3 million-$5 million from 2,009 locations.

The strength of Brand New Day, alongside The Odyssey and Toy Story 5, has also contributed to a strong summer box office. The 2026 summer domestic total has reached $4.24 billion, putting the season 23.7% ahead of the same point last year. The all-time summer record remains the $4.75 billion generated in 2013.

The broader domestic market is also showing signs of a strong year. With major releases still ahead, including Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday, the industry is increasingly confident that the full-year domestic box office could cross $10 billion, a level not reached since 2019.

For now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has spent four consecutive weekends at No. 1 and has moved into third place on the all-time domestic box-office chart based on the current reported figures. The $36.5 million fourth-weekend figure remains an estimate and will be updated once final Monday numbers are reported.
