The highly anticipated Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups finally has a new release date.

Kannada star Yash’s upcoming action drama is now set to release in cinemas worldwide on August 26, 2026. The film was originally scheduled to arrive in March before being postponed to June. However, it was delayed once again. After multiple postponements, the makers have finally locked a release date for the film.

On Sunday, Yash took to Instagram to share a new poster and confirm the release date. The actor wrote, “Honour Thy Father… #Toxic In Cinemas Worldwide from 26-08-2026.” The announcement comes after months of uncertainty surrounding the project. The film was initially slated for release on March 19, 2026. However, the makers later postponed the film, citing concerns about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and its potential impact on the movie’s global rollout.

At the time, the makers released a statement explaining the decision: “Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is a film we conceptualized with the vision to create cinema for a global audience. Filmed in Kannada and English, it is built with the conviction to connect with viewers both at home and across the world. After years of dedicated labour, we were excited to share our film with you all on March 19. However, the current uncertainty, especially in the Middle East, has created a situation that impacts our goal to reach and connect with the widest possible audience.”

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups stars Yash in a double role alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, and Rukmini Vasanth.

The action fantasy drama marks Yash’s return to the big screen four years after KGF Chapter 2, which emerged as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters of all time with a worldwide gross exceeding ₹1,200 crore. Toxic is particularly significant because it marks Yash’s first theatrical release since the KGF sequel. The actor spent nearly four years away from the big screen, making the project one of the most anticipated Indian films currently in production.

The film follows a ruthless gangster who builds a vast criminal empire and drug syndicate through bloodshed, fear, and paranoia. Set largely in Goa, the story unfolds against the backdrop of shifting power dynamics during the final years of Portuguese rule in India. Behind the region’s beaches and colonial architecture lies a dangerous underworld driven by smuggling networks, greed, and violent rivalries.

Speaking to Variety about the project, Yash previously said: “On the face of it, it might look like a gangster film with all the commercial elements, but it’s so nuanced because there is so much moral ambiguity, raw emotion, and exploration of the darker side of human nature. As an artist, at this point in my life, those are the kinds of themes I want to explore on celluloid.”

Toxic is being positioned as one of the most ambitious productions in Indian cinema. Filmed simultaneously in Kannada and English, the movie is designed for a multilingual release across six Indian languages in addition to its English version, reflecting its pan-India and international ambitions.

The film’s international ambitions were one of the key reasons behind its postponement earlier this year. The makers had previously stated that uncertainty in key overseas markets, particularly the Middle East, could affect the film’s ability to reach its intended global audience.

The film also marks the biggest commercial venture of Geetu Mohandas’ career. The National Award-winning filmmaker is best known for critically acclaimed projects such as Moothon, making her collaboration with Yash one of the most intriguing creative partnerships in recent Indian cinema. The film marks the first collaboration between Yash and Geetu Mohandas. It is produced by KVN Productions and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. After a series of delays, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is finally set to arrive in theaters worldwide on August 26, 2026.
