The latest glimpse of King offers a closer look at the darker character Shah Rukh Khan is set to portray in the upcoming action thriller. The newly unveiled poster features the actor with a rose between his teeth, a gun in his hand and a bloodied appearance against a backdrop of flames. Accompanying the image is the line, “Aaj phir yaad aaya… Qaatil nahi… Aashiq hoon…” The tagline creates an intriguing contrast between the character’s violent appearance and his description of himself as a lover.

Scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 24, 2026, King is drawing attention for its ensemble cast, reported production costs and position in the competitive Christmas release window.

The scale of King has become a subject of discussion following reports about its production budget. An earlier estimate from Bollywood Hungama placed the production cost at approximately ₹450 crore, excluding marketing expenses and Shah Rukh Khan’s acting fee. However, director Siddharth Anand challenged reports about the figure on social media. The reported budget has not been officially established, and the precise production cost remains unconfirmed.

The film has also been linked to a reported ₹250 crore all-India theatrical distribution deal with Pen Marudhar. This figure, too, has not been confirmed through an official financial disclosure. If accurate, the reported amounts would place King among the more significant commercial undertakings in Hindi cinema. Its box-office performance will ultimately depend on audience response, the scale of its theatrical release and its ability to sustain interest beyond the opening weekend.

Another major point of interest is the first theatrical collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter, Suhana Khan. After making her acting debut in Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies in 2023, Suhana is set to share the screen with her father in a major theatrical production. Their pairing adds a personal dimension to the project while marking an important step in Suhana’s acting career.

The cast also includes Deepika Padukone, who reunites with Shah Rukh Khan following their collaborations in Pathaan and Jawan. Abhishek Bachchan is part of the principal lineup, alongside veteran performers Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff, as well as Jaideep Ahlawat. The makers have kept details about the actors’ respective characters under wraps, leaving the nature of their roles and their relationships within the story undisclosed.

King also reunites Shah Rukh Khan with director Siddharth Anand following Pathaan. Anand’s experience with action-driven productions brings an established creative lead to the genre-focused project. Sujoy Ghosh has contributed to the story and screenplay, bringing his experience with thrillers such as Kahaani and Badla to the film.

Reports have compared the film’s alleged mentor-assassin dynamic with Luc Besson’s 1994 film Léon: The Professional. However, the makers have not confirmed that King is an adaptation of the French action thriller. The film’s complete storyline remains undisclosed, and the comparison should therefore be treated as speculation rather than an established description of its narrative.

The music brings together Sachin–Jigar, who are composing the songs, and Anirudh Ravichander, who is handling the background score. Their respective contributions will shape the film’s musical identity, from its songs to the score accompanying its dramatic and action sequences.

With its December 24, 2026, release date, King is positioned to enter cinemas during the holiday season, a period that also features major Hollywood titles, including Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three. The extent of any direct competition will depend on the films’ final release plans and the allocation of screens across different markets.

For King, the combination of a large ensemble, an established action director and a high-profile holiday release presents both an opportunity and a commercial challenge. The new poster offers audiences another glimpse of Shah Rukh Khan’s character, while reports about the film’s finances have added to expectations surrounding its theatrical performance.

Ultimately, the film’s ability to connect with audiences will matter more than its reported price tag. Audience reception, theatrical reach and box-office sustainability will determine whether King can convert the attention surrounding its release into a successful theatrical run.
