After becoming one of the biggest theatrical successes of 2026, Michael is heading to streaming. Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic will make its streaming debut on Starz beginning August 10, giving subscribers their first opportunity to watch the billion-dollar blockbuster at home after its exclusive theatrical run. The announcement marks the next chapter in the film’s remarkable commercial journey following its record-breaking performance at the global box office.
Released in theaters on April 24, Michael grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, becoming one of the year’s highest-grossing films and one of the most successful musical biopics ever released. The film enjoyed a strong theatrical run across domestic and international markets, cementing its status as one of Lionsgate’s biggest box office successes and establishing newcomer Jaafar Jackson as one of the year’s breakout stars.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, Michael chronicles the extraordinary rise of Michael Jackson from his early years performing with the Jackson 5 during the 1960s to his emergence as one of the world’s biggest music icons. The film follows his journey through his solo career, culminating with the legendary Bad Tour in the late 1980s.
Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of Michael Jackson, makes his feature film debut in the title role, while Juliano Valdi portrays the singer as a child. The ensemble cast also includes Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller as longtime entertainment lawyer John Branca, Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, and Larenz Tate as Motown founder Berry Gordy. Michael’s siblings are portrayed by Jamal R. Henderson (Jermaine), Tre’ Horton (Marlon), Rhyan Hill (Tito), Joseph David-Jones (Jackie), and Jessica Sula (LaToya).
Lionsgate first announced the project in February 2022, with Antoine Fuqua signing on to direct and Jaafar Jackson joining the cast in February 2023. The film generated significant attention throughout its production, with Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle becoming one of its most closely watched aspects ahead of release.
The film’s arrival on Starz comes just over three months after its theatrical debut, extending the commercial life of one of the year’s biggest hits. The streaming premiere is expected to introduce Michael to audiences who missed its theatrical run while giving fans an opportunity to revisit the acclaimed biographical drama from home.
Following its billion-dollar run at the global box office, Michael now begins its streaming journey on August 10, adding another major title to Starz’s growing film library and giving one of 2026’s biggest cinematic successes a new audience beyond theaters.
