Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Spooky! My Yokai Vacation — Release Date: 31 July 2026. Produced by Shin-Ei Animation, the film is the 34th theatrical installment in the long-running Crayon Shin-chan franchise and the 33rd traditionally animated feature in the series. Directed as part of the beloved anime property’s continuing cinematic legacy, the film features the voices of Yumiko Kobayashi, Miki Narahashi, and Toshiyuki Morikawa. Blending comedy, fantasy, family adventure, and Japanese folklore, the film takes the Nohara family to Akita Prefecture for a supernatural summer vacation unlike any they have experienced before.

The story begins when unusual and mysterious events start occurring across Japan. At the same time, the Nohara family travels to Akita Prefecture to visit the parents of Hiroshi Nohara. During the trip, Shinnosuke unexpectedly becomes connected to a mysterious presence after encountering a suspicious shadow. His attention is soon captured by advertisements for a place called Obake Village, which promises unlimited supplies of his favorite snack, Chocobi. Excited by the offer, Shin-chan persuades his family to visit the destination.

What starts as a lighthearted excursion soon turns into an extraordinary adventure. Traveling deep into the mountains of Akita, the family accidentally crosses into the forbidden Land of Yokai, a hidden realm inhabited by supernatural creatures from Japanese folklore. Separated from the ordinary world, the Noharas must navigate a landscape filled with magical beings, strange phenomena, and unexpected challenges as they search for a way back home.

Yumiko Kobayashi returns as the voice of Shinnosuke “Shin-chan” Nohara, accompanied by Miki Narahashi as Misae Nohara and Toshiyuki Morikawa as Hiroshi Nohara. The film continues the franchise’s tradition of combining family comedy with imaginative adventures, while introducing a setting inspired by Akita, the hometown of Shin-chan’s grandfather, Ginnosuke Nohara. This marks the first theatrical Shin-chan film to be primarily set in the region.

Drawing upon Japanese yokai folklore, the film expands the fantasy elements of the franchise while maintaining the humor, family dynamics, and playful storytelling that have defined Crayon Shin-chan for decades. Through its blend of supernatural adventure and summer vacation escapades, the film offers a new setting and mythology for one of Japan’s most enduring animated characters.

The film is scheduled for theatrical release in Japan on 31 July 2026.
