Set seventeen years after the events of Dune: Part Two, the story follows Paul Atreides as he rules the known universe as Emperor while confronting the consequences of the holy war carried out in his name. Burdened by political intrigue, religious devotion, and the weight of prophecy, Paul must navigate growing conspiracies that threaten his empire, his family, and the future of humanity. As powerful factions unite against him, long-buried secrets and unexpected allies reshape the balance of power across the galaxy. The narrative continues the saga’s exploration of leadership, destiny, sacrifice, and the dangers of absolute power.

Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides alongside Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck. Jason Momoa reprises his role in the form of Hayt, while Robert Pattinson joins the franchise as Scytale, a mysterious Face Dancer whose actions become central to the story. The ensemble also includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam, Isaach de Bankolé as Farok, and newcomers Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke as Paul’s children, Leto II and Ghanima Atreides.

Director Denis Villeneuve concludes his adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic science fiction saga with a film that expands the political, philosophical, and emotional themes established in the previous installments. Villeneuve has described the project as a distinct story rather than simply the conclusion of a trilogy, exploring the consequences of Paul’s rise to power and the cost of fulfilling prophecy. The screenplay, co-written with acclaimed comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan, takes creative inspiration from Dune Messiah while building upon the cinematic foundation established by the earlier films.

Principal photography took place in Budapest and Abu Dhabi, utilizing large-format 65mm photography and selected IMAX sequences to capture the scale of Arrakis and its surrounding worlds. Cinematography is by Linus Sandgren, replacing Greig Fraser, while Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer returns to provide the score. The production continues the franchise’s emphasis on practical locations, large-scale visual effects, and immersive world-building.

Blending epic science fiction, political drama, and philosophical storytelling, Dune: Part Three concludes Paul Atreides’ cinematic journey while adapting one of Frank Herbert’s most influential novels. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in IMAX and standard formats on 18 December 2026.
