Toxic Nears ₹20 Crore in Advance Bookings Ahead of Its August 26 Release

Toxic Advance Booking Nears ₹20 Crore Before Release
August 22, 2026

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has become a major box-office story ahead of its release, with advance bookings reportedly reaching ₹19.44 crore after more than 2.6 lakh tickets were sold ahead of its August 26 worldwide debut. The early response has taken the film close to the ₹20 crore advance-booking mark and raised expectations for a strong opening. The numbers are particularly significant as this is the first theatrical release from its leading star since 2022’s K.G.F: Chapter 2, making Toxic an important test of audience demand after a four-year gap.

The reported ₹19.44 crore figure represents advance ticket sales and not actual box-office collections. According to the latest booking reports, the strongest contribution has come from Karnataka, while sales in other Indian markets and overseas territories have added to the total. In the United States, advance bookings had already begun before India’s nationwide booking window opened, giving the film an early international start.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Akshay Oberoi and Sudev Nair. The film has received an A certificate in India, meaning it is intended for adult audiences. That certification, along with its long runtime and large-scale release strategy, has added another layer to the discussion around the film ahead of its opening.

As per the reports, the film crossed 100,000 BookMyShow ticket sales within hours of advance bookings opening on August 21, while Karnataka’s early advance business moved close to ₹5 crore. Cinema Express reported that sales in Bengaluru crossed 25,000 tickets an hour at one stage, with several shows filling quickly. As bookings expanded across markets, the wider reported advance business moved towards the ₹20 crore mark.

The current trend gives the release a strong platform heading into its opening. Trade reports have suggested that the film could target an opening day of around ₹20 crore, although this remains an estimate rather than a confirmed result. Whether Toxic reaches that level will depend on how advance bookings grow over the remaining days and how many walk-in audiences turn up on release day.

Toxic also arrives with an unusually large release plan. The Geetu Mohandas-directed film is being mounted as a multilingual project, with a worldwide rollout planned across major Indian and international markets. Reports have indicated a target of more than 12,000 screens globally, although the final screen count has not been officially confirmed. The scale of the release makes the early booking response relevant beyond a single market.

The film marks its lead star’s return to theatres after the enormous commercial success of K.G.F: Chapter 2, which became one of the biggest Indian hits of 2022. That previous success has naturally raised expectations, but Toxic is a different project with a new creative team, an ensemble cast and a gangster-drama setting. Its performance will therefore be closely watched as the next major chapter in the actor’s theatrical career.

For now, the reason Toxic is making headlines is clear: audiences have already bought more than 2.6 lakh tickets, generating reported advance business of ₹19.44 crore before the film has opened. The next few days will determine how much further that number rises. Reviews, word of mouth, walk-in audiences and performance across different territories will ultimately decide its opening-day result, but the strong advance response has already made August 26 an important date on the box-office calendar.
