Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — Release Date: November 11, 2022. Directed by Ryan Coogler, starring Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o, and Danai Gurira. Produced by Marvel Studios, the film serves as both a continuation of Wakanda’s story and a cinematic act of mourning following the death of King T’Challa.
The narrative opens with Wakanda reeling from the loss of its king. Shuri, T’Challa’s sister and chief scientific mind, is unable to save him and retreats inward, rejecting both tradition and the symbolic need for a Black Panther. Queen Ramonda assumes leadership at a moment when Wakanda’s isolationist stance is increasingly challenged by global powers seeking access to vibranium. As foreign nations attempt to seize the resource by force, Wakanda’s vulnerability becomes evident.
The geopolitical tension escalates with the emergence of Talokan, a secret, vibranium-rich underwater civilization led by Namor. Ancient, powerful, and shaped by centuries of violence inflicted by the surface world, Talokan represents a mirror to Wakanda—another nation hidden to survive. Namor views Wakanda’s exposure to the world as a threat and demands they surrender the scientist responsible for creating a vibranium-detecting machine, warning that refusal will lead to war.
As Shuri is drawn into Talokan and exposed to Namor’s history and worldview, the film explores competing philosophies of protection, vengeance, and legacy. Nakia is brought back into Wakanda’s defense, while Okoye faces personal and professional reckoning after failing to protect the royal family. The conflict culminates in a devastating attack on Wakanda that claims Queen Ramonda’s life, forcing Shuri to confront her grief, anger, and responsibility.
Shuri ultimately recreates the heart-shaped herb and assumes the mantle of Black Panther, guided not by tradition but by unresolved pain. Her journey contrasts vengeance with restraint, culminating in a decisive confrontation with Namor that reshapes both nations’ futures. Rather than domination, the resolution hinges on mutual survival and strategic alliance.
The film closes on reflection rather than triumph—honoring loss, continuity, and the future of Wakanda beyond one king. Wakanda Forever reframes heroism as remembrance, responsibility, and the choice to endure.
