Korean Kanakaraju — Release Date: 7 August 2026. Written and directed by Merlapaka Gandhi, the Telugu-language horror comedy stars Varun Tej, Ritika Nayak, and Satya. Produced by Sai Babu Jagarlamudi and Y. Rajeev Reddy under the banners First Frame Entertainments and UV Creations, the film combines supernatural fantasy, action, and comedy in a cross-cultural adventure spanning India and South Korea. The soundtrack is composed by S. Thaman.

The story follows Kanakaraju, a hot-headed young man from Penugonda in Andhra Pradesh’s Rayalaseema region who leads an ordinary village life. His world takes an extraordinary turn after he comes into contact with a mysterious dragon-shaped vase that possesses him with supernatural powers. Following the encounter, Kanakaraju’s eyes turn blue, granting him unusual abilities while also triggering an inexplicable phenomenon—every time South Korea is mentioned, he is instantly transported there. As he struggles to understand his newfound powers, Kanakaraju becomes entangled in a dangerous conflict involving the Korean mafia and local law enforcement. Forced to navigate unfamiliar surroundings while confronting increasingly powerful enemies, he must uncover the mystery behind the ancient artifact before its supernatural force consumes his life completely.

Varun Tej plays the titular role of Kanakaraju, while Ritika Nayak stars as Chaitra and Satya appears as Kishtappa, Kanakaraju’s comic companion. The supporting cast includes Sunil, Tulasi, VTV Ganesh, Muralidhar Goud, Mahesh Achanta, and Bheemala Revanth Pavan Sai Subhash, adding humor and emotional depth to the film’s supernatural narrative.

Director Merlapaka Gandhi, known for blending comedy with fantasy and commercial entertainment, presents a unique cross-cultural premise that combines Telugu humor with Korean settings and action sequences. Principal photography took place across India and South Korea, with major portions filmed in Korean locations to support the story’s international backdrop. Cinematography is by Manojh Reddy Katasani, editing by Satyaa G, and music by S. Thaman, whose soundtrack includes the promotional single “Kamsahamnida,” performed by Sid Sriram.

Blending horror, fantasy, action, and comedy, Korean Kanakaraju explores themes of destiny, courage, and self-discovery through a supernatural adventure that connects two cultures. Combining village humor with international action and fantasy elements, the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 7 August 2026.
