Obsession (2025)

Obsession — Release Date: 15 May 2026. Directed by Curry Barker, starring Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette. Written, directed and edited by Barker, the American supernatural horror film explores the consequences of desire within a dark, character-driven narrative.

Obsession follows Bear, a music store employee who becomes fixated on rekindling a romantic connection with his childhood friend and co-worker, Nikki. In pursuit of this desire, he acquires a supernatural object known as the “One Wish Willow,” which grants a single wish. Bear uses it in the hope of making Nikki fall in love with him.

However, the outcome of the wish leads to unintended and increasingly disturbing consequences. As Nikki’s behavior begins to change in response to the wish, Bear is confronted with the reality that his actions have disrupted the natural order of their relationship. The narrative explores how a seemingly simple desire escalates into a situation marked by psychological tension and supernatural implications.

Michael Johnston portrays Bear, while Inde Navarrette plays Nikki. Supporting roles include Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter. The film is structured around the evolving dynamic between its central characters, with the supernatural element serving as a catalyst for the unfolding events.

The project was developed following Barker’s work on short-form horror content, eventually expanding into a feature-length production. Principal photography took place in California, with production design and cinematography contributing to the film’s contained and atmospheric tone.

Obsession premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 5 September 2025 as part of the Midnight Madness section. It later secured distribution and is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on 15 May 2026.

Positioned within the horror genre, the film combines elements of supernatural storytelling with themes of obsession, consequence and emotional imbalance, focusing on how a single wish alters the trajectory of its characters’ lives.
