The Amateur

The Amateur release date: April 11, 2025. Directed by James Hawes, this American vigilante spy thriller is based on Robert Littell’s 1981 novel. The screenplay is written by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli, with Rami Malek in the lead role alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Laurence Fishburne.

The film follows Charles Heller (Malek), a CIA cryptographer whose wife is killed in a London terrorist attack. When his superiors refuse to act, he blackmails the agency into training him as a field operative, launching a personal mission to hunt down the killers.

Produced by 20th Century Studios, The Amateur promises a gripping blend of espionage, action, and revenge. Principal photography took place in London, France, and Turkey. Initially set for a November 8, 2024 release, the film was rescheduled to April 11, 2025.
